Information For Authors

Are you interested in publishing in the journal? Authors must register with the journal before submitting, or if already registered, they can simply log in and start the five-step submission process.

Submission of Originals

Revista de Derecho is an annual academic publication. It publishes one issue per year, in December.

The usual deadline for submission of originals, depending on the edition, is from January 6 to April 18.

Evaluation of Originals

The Editorial Board will conduct an initial review of the received articles to assess their compliance with minimum quality requirements and alignment with the journal's focus, within 30 days from the closing date of the call for submissions. Authors are encouraged to use the prescribed format when drafting their articles.

You can find the format here: Article Submission Template.docx

The second stage of article review is carried out by external academics specialized in each thematic area, using a double-blind peer review process that ensures anonymity for both authors and reviewers. Revista de Derecho only accepts for publication those works that are original and have received a positive evaluation from at least two reviewers who are external to the University of Piura.

Authors commit to ensuring the originality of their research, confirming the absence of plagiarism, text reuse, or duplicate prior publications. Finally, the Editorial Board makes the decision on whether to publish an article or not, strictly following the criteria established for scientific publications, ensuring the quality and relevance of the works disseminated.

The review format corresponds to the following criteria: Review Template RD

If two reports received for an original article are contradictory (Accepted - Not Accepted), Revista de Derecho will call upon a third external reviewer.

Once the feedback from external academic reviewers is received (Publish as is, Publish after making the suggested changes, Second review, Not publishable), the corresponding communication will be sent to the author.

The final publication decision, whether acceptance or rejection, is based on the reviewers' reports, in conjunction with the following criteria:

  • Originality and novelty of the research
  • Academic contribution to the legal knowledge of law
  • Reliability and methodological relevance
  • Content relevance for national and international researchers
  • Scientific rigor of writing and style

The journal is committed to communicating to authors the positive or negative decision about the publication of their originals within the twelfth week following the closing date of each edition. The communication will include the content of the anonymous reviewers’ reports.

Authors whose articles have received a favorable review but with suggestions for revisions must resubmit the article to Revista de Derecho once the suggested improvements have been incorporated, within a maximum of two weeks.

If the article requires a second review, the author(s) have two weeks to make the changes. Afterward, the editor, along with external reviewers, will verify that the changes have been made. If confirmed, the manuscript will be considered finished. Otherwise, it will be dismissed.

Once the articles are accepted and adjustments have been made, they will undergo orthotypographic correction, respecting the individual style of each author. This correction is for form only, never for content. Communication is direct with the authors to avoid altering the original content.

Article Submission Guidelines

The submitted articles must be original and unpublished. If the text is a translation, it must meet the highest professional standards of quality and accuracy, respecting the integrity and context of the original content.

All submissions must be made through the OJS platform of Revista de Derecho. The author will be responsible for the authenticity of the article’s authorship in case of any dispute related to published works.

Along with the article, the author must submit the Author Submission Form, signed by all co-authors, if applicable.

It is important that authors carefully review the submission checklist available in the journal to ensure that all requirements have been met before submitting the article.

The recommended number of authors per article is two. In all cases, the order of authors must be clearly established, and each author’s contribution to the work must be justified. In collaborative research, each author must identify their role of contribution according to the CRediT taxonomy, which has been implemented to promote transparency and quality in scientific research. The contribution roles will appear at the end of each published article.

It is important to note that authors cannot submit two manuscripts simultaneously to the journal. Additionally, the same author or coauthor cannot publish an article again until at least one year has passed, meaning that at least one issue of Revista de Derecho has been published. This measure aims to ensure diversity in contributions and the rotation of authors in the journal's publications.

Research Content Guidelines

Research Focus: The works must be scientific investigations, not merely essays that address a topic superficially or anecdotally. It is essential that the study is thorough, clearly addressing a relevant and current legal issue, and aligned with the various fields of law.

Comprehensive View of the Topic: The article should offer a complete and multidimensional analysis of the proposed topic. Avoid overly localized or limited approaches focused on specific cases. It is essential to provide a broader perspective that includes national or international context, allowing for better understanding and extrapolation of the results.

Originality and Novelty: The topics addressed should be novel and provide something new to the field of legal knowledge. They should not simply repeat widely discussed studies. The work must present new proposals, approaches, or solutions within the field of law, enriching legal scholarship.

Contributions and In-depth Analysis: Authors must compare their findings with those of other experts in the field, demonstrating the relevance and originality of their research. The article should offer an interpretive and detailed analysis of the object of study, not just a superficial description of facts or cases. The research should provide clear conclusions and contribute significant value to the academic debate, avoiding the partial publication of results without context or explanation.

Relevance and Applicability: The topics addressed should have a scope that transcends strictly local or specific cases. While studies may focus on a particular reality, the results should allow for broader understanding of the topic, so that the conclusions can be extrapolated to a wider context.

State of the Art and Critical Contribution: The "state of the art" should be approached systematically, with a critical and original discussion on the techniques, methods, and approaches reviewed. It should not just be a simple enumeration of relevant literature, but a critical reflection that identifies gaps in knowledge and proposes new directions for the development of law on the analyzed subject.

Timeliness and Relevance: The studies should be current, with an analysis period not exceeding two years prior to the submission date of the article. This ensures that the works are relevant and reflect the most recent developments in the field of law, contributing to contemporary academic debate.

Integrity and Plagiarism Detection

Authors are responsible for ensuring the integrity of their scientific research, which includes a strict adherence to honesty and transparency in all aspects of the investigative process. This covers both the collection and analysis of data as well as the interpretation of results, ensuring the work is conducted ethically and rigorously.

The Editorial Board implements a strict plagiarism control system using Turnitin, a widely recognized plagiarism prevention tool. This system is not only used to verify the originality of texts but also to detect AI-generated writing, helping to maintain the highest standards of quality and authenticity in publications. This measure reinforces the commitment to academic transparency and the validity of the submitted works.

Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence

The use of generative AI in research requires a detailed and precise description of the tools employed, the type of content generated, and the specific purpose for which it was used. This information should be clearly and rigorously included in the Methodology section of the work to ensure transparency and proper interpretation of the results.

It is important to note that generative AI tools should be used as support for operational and auxiliary tasks, such as organizing data or generating initial proposals, but not as a substitute for interpreting information or drawing conclusions. This is because the results obtained may be prone to errors, omissions, or biases, which could compromise the reliability of the findings.

Additionally, it is essential to remember that AI should not be cited as an author of the work or research, as, being a computational technology, it lacks the ability to assume responsibility or consent for its use. Consequently, human authors are solely responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the documents produced, ensuring that the conclusions and implications derived from the results are appropriately evaluated and contextualized.
